World Elephant Day (WED) is an annually celebrated occasion to raise awareness of the need to conserve and protect elephants worldwide. At MEME, WED is a celebration that is close to our hearts as we strive to conserve the Asian elephants in Malaysia.
In 2022, MEME organized a carnival with the villagers of Felda Lok Heng Barat to celebrate World Elephant Day. The theme of our carnival is “Achieving Coexistence with Elephants”, which is also in line with the goal of our MEME Phase 3 project.
Together with our project partners such as the Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS), Department of Wildlife and National Parks Malaysia (PERHILITAN), Department of Forestry Malaysia (Perhutanan), Rimba The Card Game, Sime Darby Plantations, FGV Plantations, SoWild with Christine Das, and also Layar Liar, we put together exhibitions and informative booths that saw almost 700 people participating.
We hope that everybody learned something new about the need and importance of elephant conservation through this carnival!
